Description:

Elongate body with a wide forward-facing mouth and a blunt snout. Body tapers to a rounded tail. Brown/black mottling with light vertical stripes along length of body. Notched dorsal fin with second dorsal more elongate than the first. No lateral line. No scales.

The Naked Goby has a small body size, pale vertical stripes, the absence of scales, and a rounded tail fin which can be used to distinguish the Naked Goby from other regional gobies.

Massachusetts to Gulf of Mexico

Habitat:

Found in coastal waters, rivers, and marshes containing oyster reefs and submerged vegetation.
