Description:

Small fish with lanceolate tail, body brown/tan with mottling and series dark square spots/patches along lateral line of body. Modified pelvic fins form a disc/suction cup on belly. Dark cheek band starting from corner of mouth and ends at edge of eye socket. Second dorsal more elongate than the first. Hints of blue on fins with red edges.

Adults Distinguishing Characteristics:

The Freshwater Goby can be distingusihed from the Naked Goby by the presence of body scales and a less evenly rounded tail fin. The Freshwater Goby's body pattern includes approximately five semi-rectangular blotch marks along the sides of the body in contrast to the light vertical stripes of the Naked Goby.
