Description:

Deep robust head with rounded snout. Modified pelvic fins form disc/suction cup on belly. No lateral line. Elongate cylindrical body covered in scales. Dorsal, pectoral, and tail fins covered in small black and white dots near base of fin. Body may appear brown, black, or olive-green, mottled with 3-4 dark bars/saddles along back and sides of body

Adults Distinguishing Characteristics:

The Frillfin Goby lacks the distinctly broad head and spines of the Oyster Toadfish.

Range:

North Carolina to Brazil

Habitat:

Found in coastal waters with sandy and muddy bottoms. Prefers areas such as lagoons, tide pools, tidal creeks, estuaries, and mangrove swamps. Found around submerged vegetation, reefs, and rocks.
