Description:

No interdorsal ridge. Elongate dark olive to brownish-gray body with a flattened, hammer-shaped head and eyes on the sides of the head. Indent in center of head. Length of second dorsal fin is about as long as it high. First dorsal fin is very tall. Pevlic fins with curved rear margins.

Adults Distinguishing Characteristics:

Great Hammerhead Sharks have an indent in center of its head, but no notches near its eyes distinguishing it from Smooth and Scalloped hammerheads.

Range:

North Carolina to Brazil, Worldwide

Habitat:

Warm seas, near shore to over the continental shelf.
