Description:

Elongate gray-brown to olive body with a flattened, hammer-shaped head and eyes on the sides of the head. Indent in center of head, and notches in front of the eyes create a point. Length of second dorsal fin longer than it is high. Underside of pectoral fins tipped in black. Pevlic fin rear edge is nearly straight.

Adults Distinguishing Characteristics:

The indent in the center of the head distinguishes the Scalloped from the smooth hammerhead shark and the notches creating point on the sides of the heads by the eyes distinguish Scalloped Hammerhead Sharks from Great Hammerheads whose edges are not pointed.

Coastal to offshore, in warm and tropical seas.
