Description:

Interdorsal ridge is present. Snout is moderately short and broadly rounded. Body is brown or gray fading to a white belly. No pigmentation on tip of anal fin. Insertion origin of first dorsal fin in line with back of pectoral fin. First dorsal fin is large and high compared to the body.

Adults Distinguishing Characteristics:

Sandbar Sharks can be distinguished from other sharks by its interdorsal ridge, lack of pigmentation on its anal fin, lack of distinct markings, and it's moderately pointed head. Dusky sharks are most common for misidentification, though the dusky's first dorsal starts over pectoral fin tip.

Nearshore and estuaries, over sandy and muddy bottoms.
