Description:

Body is flat and generally olive-brownish color with a pale belly. Its head is bi-lobed which resembles a cow's nose. Fleshy lobes beneath head are attached to the middle of its snout. Its eyes and spiracles (opening) are on the sides of its head. Its disk is wider than long; tail slender with spine at base, with single dorsal fin at base of tail and no caudal fin.

Habitat:

Cownose rays are active swimmers so they are often found in shallow coastal waters and rarely seen on sea floors like other stingrays. They are predominantly found near beaches but may enter estuaries. Can be found in large schools and they can migrate large distances.
