Description:

Long, compressed body. Metallic back with blue or greenish tint, and silvery belly. Tail fin yellow to colorless. May have silvery bars on body. First dorsal fin has well-devloped unconnected spines. Second dorsal fin and anal fin similar in shape and size; finlets present. Dorsal and anal fin spines mildly venomous.

Adults Distinguishing Characteristics:

The Leatherjack can be distinguished from other jack species by the presence of semi-detached posterior dorsal and anal fin rays which form distinctive fin-lets.

Habitat:

Nearshore along sandy beaches, and inlets.
