Thin yellow and light-blue horizontal stripes along length of body Light-blue wavy lines on face. Singluar dark spot behind gill plates. Sharp spines on dorsal and anal fins. Small forward-facing mouth with incisor-like teeth

Adults Distinguishing Characteristics:

Compared to the Pinfish, Pigfish have a more pointed snout, larger mouth, smaller eyes, and no spot behind pectoral fins.

Massachusetts to Gulf of Mexico

Habitat:

Found in coastal waters with hard sandy or rocky bottoms. Can enter brackish or even freshwater.
