Description:

Brownish to yellow body, with white or silvery belly. Large mouth with protruding lower jaw that reaches below the rear portion of the eye with a sloping forehead. Tail is forked with rounded lobes. Fins dusky to yellowish. A dark horizontal stripe on lateral line. Pelvic fin is yellow in color.

Range:

North Carolina to Brazil

Habitat:

Coasts and estuaries, may be in marshes, or mangroves, and go up rivers. Prefers lower salinities. Not cold water tolerant. Found around structure.
