Description:

No interdorsal ridge. Elongate body that is dusky gray-blue with a white belly. Pointed snout that appears V-shaped from below, but not much longer than the mouth is wide. Black tips on all fins except for the anal fin that fades with growth. Insertion of origin of second dorsal fin over the origin of the anal fin. Insertion of the first dorsal fin in line with back of pectoral fin.

Adults Distinguishing Characteristics:

Blacktip Shark do not have any pigmentation on their anal fin like Spinner sharks, but black tips on the rest of their fins. Their snout is pointed in a deep V.

Juveniles Distinguishing Characteristics:

Juvenile Blacktips have darker pigmentation of the black tips and are generally paler in body color.

Massachusetts to Brazil
